Dr Jai Palaniappan
Dr Jai Palaniappan has been a doctor for more than 25 years. He completed his basic medical degree in India before undertaking general surgery training in Malaysia and Australia, gaining exposure across a range of surgical specialties including bariatric, vascular, plastics, and skin cancer surgery. He completed aesthetic training in Australia in 2023 and went on to train in hair transplant surgery in Sydney under the Medical Aesthetics Training Academy. He is also a member of the prestigious International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) in the United States. His work covers all kinds of hair loss, from simple thinning due to androgenetic alopecia in men and women through to severe scarring alopecia, with a particular focus on hair transplant surgery, including beard and eyebrow transplants and corrective work where previous surgery has gone wrong.
When a patient is unsure what is causing their hair loss, Dr Jai begins by listening carefully and taking a thorough history, asking about the pattern and duration of the loss, family history, medical conditions, medications, recent illness, stress, diet, and hair care habits, followed by a detailed scalp and hair examination and, where needed, investigations such as blood tests, trichoscopy, or a scalp biopsy. He believes in never jumping to conclusions, taking a systematic, evidence-based approach, and involving patients in every decision. Above all, he wants patients to feel reassured, clear, and confident that they are in capable hands. He finds the work deeply rewarding, especially seeing patients regain their self-esteem and quality of life, and he advises anyone experiencing hair loss for the first time not to panic or self-diagnose online, but to seek an accurate professional assessment early so that treatment can be tailored to their specific situation.
